Family-friendly attractions in England

The "White Post Farm" in Newark, England, is one of the most popular family-friendly attractions in the East Midlands, offering a unique experience for children and adults alike for over 30 years. Located on approximately 25 hectares, the farm is home to more than 3,000 animals and combines nature, adventure, and interactive entertainment in an idyllic rural setting. Situated near the town of Farnsfield, it is a staple of the Nottinghamshire region, known for its diverse offerings that delight visitors in both good and bad weather.

Experience animals up close farm

A central draw of White Post Farm is the opportunity to get up close and personal with a wide range of animals. Visitors can encounter classic farm animals such as sheep, goats, cows, and pigs, including rare breeds like Oxford Sandy and Black pigs or Greyface Dartmoor sheep. In addition, there are more exotic residents such as armadillos, wallabies, crocodiles, and alpacas that add a special touch to the visit. The farm actively promotes interaction with the animals: guests can feed the animals - such as sheep and goats in the fields or guinea pigs in the covered areas - and even spend time with their favorite animals during special "Animal Encounters." These encounters are especially popular with children, allowing them to get to know the animals up close.

Indoor play area for kids

White Post Farm is designed to remain a rewarding destination in any weather. More than half of the facility is covered, including the "Silver Barn," where rare breeds and seasonal young animals like lambs, piglets, or kids are housed. Another highlight is the "Reptiles of the World" exhibition, showcasing a variety of reptiles from around the world, including crocodiles like Nessie and Desmond. For those who prefer the fresh air, a walk around the fields provides the opportunity to see and feed larger animals like alpacas, donkeys, deer, and wallabies. These outdoor areas are equipped with paths accessible to wheelchair users, making the farm inclusive and family-friendly.

Sustainability in leisure offerings

In addition to the animals, White Post Farm offers a plethora of play and leisure opportunities. The "Jungle Barn" is a new indoor play area popular with children, while outdoor attractions such as Miniville, Merv's Hideout, Skyjumpers, a beach area, and go-karts provide variety. Special experiences include shows such as falconry with birds of prey like Eddie the eagle or Mr. Woo, the great gray owl, as well as entertaining sheep and goat races often accompanied by charismatic hosts. For those wanting to delve deeper into farm life, exclusive packages like the "Farmer Experience" or "Reptile Keeper Experience" allow visitors to accompany a farmer or animal keeper and assist in caring for the animals.

Exclusive farmer experience on farm

The dining options at White Post Farm are diverse and conveniently located. The "Tea Rooms" are open year-round and offer a selection of lunch dishes, coffee and cakes, as well as seasonal specialties. The "Lunch Barn" is a takeaway option for quick snacks or hot drinks to enjoy on the go, while the "Jungle Café" in the indoor play area provides another option for a break. These facilities ensure that visitors are well catered for during their stay, whether they desire a quick snack or a hearty meal.

The farm places great emphasis on the well-being of its animals and the sustainability of its offerings. Many of the animals are lovingly cared for, and the proceeds go towards new enclosures or improvements to the habitats. Additionally, there is a small pet shop where visitors can purchase pet accessories, as well as a "Pet Hotel" that allows owners to have peace of mind knowing their pets are in good hands during a vacation. For special occasions like birthdays, the farm offers tailored packages that include a VIP tour, animal feedings, and exclusive use of a party room.

Visiting family in Nottingham, though we live in Brussels, Belgium. We stayed at WPF much longer than expected. My 3 kids (12, 10, 8) loved the outdoor go-kart track and trampolines. The animals were a bonus. They enjoyed watching the piglets feeding, and lizards eating locusts. The staff were so helpful and friendly.

Had a great day with my baby and 5 year old today. Special thanks to Brydie for helping us all avoid an emotional breakdown on arrival over some sweets 🍬 😂 It was great to hear about the owls, see the giant yellow snake slowly climbing out of his bath and we really enjoyed our jacket potato and slush puppy dinner!

Visited the farm on 25/01 and I can honestly say I have been to this farm multiple times and it’s just getting more enjoyable every time we go. They have done some areas up and it’s stunning. I also did a reptile encounter due to being my little ones birthday as a treat and the guide was amazing, very enjoyable highly recommended going. Will always be returning for many more years to come, making some forever memories. Thank you white post farm for investing back into your own space & animals.

Came for the reptile encounter, for my daughter's birthday. The (3) kids absolutely loved it, feeding some of the various lizards in the main building and then holding some snakes in the smaller staff building. Gemma was super informative and friendly, didn't a great job of keeping us on task and making sure everyone got a chance to feed/handle the animals. All round great experience, we'll definitely consider doing some of the other encounter experiences and visiting the park/zoo more generally. Thank you!

Dedicated staff. All the birds and animals are well cared for, from the crowd pleasing meerkats to the less often visited. The animals have names, and some will respond and come to be petted. It is good to have knowledgeable staff around - the majority of visitors are respectful of the animals and follow the signs, eg, keep hands clear of the geese!

Always great for the kids. My kids love animals, and this is a great place to get up close. A lot more personal than one of the larger zoos.
